Reforming Immigration: Support the DREAM Act

Comprehensive immigration reform has always been a core value and goal at IMAN. We see such reform as the recognition of both the human dignity and the socioeconomic contributions of undocumented immigrants. While comprehensive reform of the immigration system remains our long-term goal, we are currently urging support for The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, also known as the DREAM Act.

This DREAM Act will provide a path to legal status for youth who entered the U.S. as children and who will complete at least two years of college or military service. Read More

Arizona: Frontline for the Struggle of Rights and Liberties

“Arizona is now the frontline for the struggle of rights and liberties – ground zero for the struggle for justice in this nation,” says none other than Dr. Cornel West. Having been there and having felt the heart of this battle, I would agree. I was in Phoenix, AZ in the first week of October as part of an IMAN and United Congress of Community and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) delegation that drove down to do Voter Registration work with Promise Arizona (PAZ) and to be in solidarity with our Latino brothers and Latina sisters. PAZ is fighting through the political system in Arizona to stop and reverse the effects of SB 1070, the discriminatory state law that is separating immigrant families. Read More

One Chicago, One Nation Deadline Approaching

Nearly a year ago, IMAN partnered with the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), Chicago Community Trust and One Nation to launch One Chicago, One Nation. This project brings together Chicagoans of diverse faiths and cultures, with an emphasis on the Muslim community, to get to know each other through addressing local needs. The effort included a successful film contest hosted by LinkTV, the training of over 100 youth and adult leaders and a series of dialogues hosted throughout the city to address pertinent local issues. For 2011, we've heightened our focus on developing leaders and achieving concrete change in our communities. Read More

Meet Our New Medical Director

We would like to welcome Dr. Altaf Kaiseruddin to the IMAN family. He started as the first full-time Medical Director of the IMAN Health Clinic on November 1st. Dr. Kaiseruddin joins IMAN with nearly ten years of experience in the medical profession and with intimate knowledge of the West Englewood and Chicago Lawn communities. With generous support from Islamic Relief USA, Dr. Kaiseruddin is positioned to expand IMAN’s clinic into a first-class facility that is a local stalwart in holistic health and wellness. Read More

September: A World Music Community Cafe

On September 26th, artists from Senegal and Egypt joined IMAN at the South Shore Cultural Center for a special edition of Community Café. The event was held in collaboration with the Chicago World Music Festival, a week-long festival that brings diverse artists from around the world to a variety of Chicago venues. Read More
