An IMAN Update

Zeinab Bakhiet recently joined IMAN as an Executive Fellow. The Executive Fellowship is a one-year program that exposes the Fellow to a broad range of IMAN’s work and aims at building a functional understanding of community organizing and advocacy, donor cultivation, fundraising, and non-profit administration and management.
In Ramadan, IMAN launched the Refresh the ‘Hood Challenge, a month-long initiative seeking to confront issues of food access through community engagement, which stems from Muslim Run: A Campaign for Health, Wellness, and Healing. Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon during Ramadan, IMAN leaders and staff set up shop in front of two partner stores distributing free fruit smoothies to promote subsidized produce sold inside the stores. Last month, IMAN’s Arts and Culture Director, Asad Jafri, moved on to do some exciting work with the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Malaysia. For five years, Asad helped advance IMAN’s Arts and Culture programming to national and international recognition, and developed our Arts and Culture Department in order to formalize IMAN’s longstanding commitment to the organic incorporation of the arts into its work. IMAN Board Member Seemi Choudry and Leader Sadia Nawab were both selected to attend the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIFE) Young Fellows Programme 2012, a six-day intensive leadership program targeted for young “change-makers” all over the world. The two traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 9 to represent IMAN as WIEF Fellows. Nawab's project won approximately $6.5K in funding, and she will be working with others in her group from around the world to implement that project over the next few months. Read More
